It’s always a treat to catch up with Hawaii jazz legend, Gabe Baltazar, who performed recently in Honolulu. At 82, he’s still going strong.

Watch a video of Gabe Baltazar performing his signature tune, “Europa,” by Carlos Santana.

Gabe Baltazar, on alto, played with the Chuck James Trio, featuring Aaron Aranita on keyboards and saxophone, Miles Jackson on bass and Chuck James on drums.

Thanks to all the musicians and also to the concert’s organizers, the Hawaii Friends of Civil Rights, for putting on a “A Star-Studded Night of Jazz” at the Hawaii State Art Museum on a beautiful evening in July 2012.

  1. Aaron Aranita says:

    Heidi,
Thanks for putting up the video.
As I mentioned before, Gabe has been an inspiration to me.
    Aloha
    Aaron

  2. Floyd says:

I woke up from a deep sleep this afternoon in Japan and guess who’s name pop up? That’s right! Gabe.
When I was a student at Chaminade Univerisity on Waialae ave, sometimes me and my keyboardist
used to drop in on Gabe when he was playing at a small restaurant nearby. Gabe’s trumpet player called
Gade a legend. I totally agreed ! By the way, do any of you guys remember pianolist: TennesSE and Betty?
They were pretty awesome too. Mahalo and Aloha from Floyd.
