Heidi Chang is an award-winning multimedia journalist who has covered the news and culture of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim for more than 20 years. Her work has been featured on many networks, shows and news outlets, ranging from NPR to the Los Angeles Times and NBC News. Heidi contributes to audio, video, print and digital media.

Heidi got her start in journalism as a television reporter, and has also worked as a radio reporter, anchor, host and producer.
Along the way, Heidi has been honored with numerous awards and fellowships.
Her NPR stories, Soundtracking ‘The Descendants’ With ‘Real’ Hawaiian Music and a profile of Hawaiian cultural icon Nona Beamer, won national awards from the Asian American Journalists Association.
As an East-West Center fellow, Heidi traveled to China in 2003 and wrote a series of reports on her journey.
Her work has appeared in a variety of publications and digital media.
Fun fact: Before working in news, Heidi started out hosting a jazz show in Honolulu, and other shows featuring rock, pop, rhythm and blues, and Hawaiian music. Later, she also hosted music shows at KBLX “The Quiet Storm” and KCSM Jazz 91 in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Over the years, she’s interviewed many talented artists, including the legendary jazz pianist Horace Silver.
One of her favorite assignments: The Monterey Jazz Festival. It’s not only a job, it’s a passion.
